Rachana Sansad’s School of Fashion & Textile Design dedicated to the specialized training in fashion & textile design is an extraordinary combination of Indian cultural heritage and international fashion.

School of Fashion & Textile Design has been imparting education in the field of Textile Design since last 40 years. Starting as an vocational institution we have climbed up to being an institution running industry oriented courses, providing the knowledge that makes our students stand out in the industry. We are pleased to note that the Government of Maharashtra granted approval to the Course and the Director of Technical Education, Maharashtra State and the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra granted permission to the School of Interior Design’s School of Fashion and Textile Design to introduced Three Year’s part-time Government Diploma Course in Fashion & Textile Design from session 2002-2003.

The goal of the Department of Fashion Technology is to provide a dynamic, exciting community of learning , in secondary & postsecondary education for the professions of Fashion Design, Fashion Styling, Theater Costume, Merchandise Marketing, Visual Merchandising ( Window Display Designing ), Apparel Manufacturing Management, Textile Design, Fashion Journalism and related industries.

An unique specialized curriculum taught by a faculty of industry professionals combines essential theoretical education with the practical and creative application of skills and abilities with field visits & study tours specially designed to meet requirements of the field of fashion and textiles.

The School of Textile Design started in the year 1965 for One Year part time Certificate Course in Textile designing. Thereafter, in the year 1993 the school of Textile Design introduced Two Years part-time Diploma Course in Textile Designing.

Since the Course was conducted in the afternoon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays many of the students studying for other Courses took the advantage of learning Textile Designing initially as a ‘hobby’ Course and later on as a Course for “Earning”. Many of the lady students, 90% to 95% took up this course and even developed as a professional course.

During the two years course, the students were trained to develop skill and techniques necessary for Textile Design, Screen Printing, Batik and Tie & Dye and various other aspects of Textile Designing need to become excellent Textile Designers necessary for today’s trained in uses of Textiles.

Today we are in the 21st century Fashion has not only become an art for the special occasions for the elite, but is well received all over the world as a part of stylish dressing manner and also to improve the image required for the Fashion Shows and Beauty Pageantries.

Thus the School thought of introducing comprehensive course in Fashion and Textile Design. In many of the Institutes, these courses are taught independently. However, the staff of the School of Textile Design prepared Three Years part-time course in Fashion & Textile Design to give an idea to the students that along with the Textile Designing, they will also learn Fashion Designing which will be useful to them for their professional career.

The School therefore submitted Curriculum for the Three Years part-time Diploma Course in Fashion & Textile Design to the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, to seek approval for introduction of Government Diploma in Fashion & Textile Design under the auspices of Rachana Sansad’s School of Interior Design which is already a recognized school by M.S.B.T.E.

We are pleased to note that the Government of Maharashtra granted approval to the Course and the Director of Technical Education, Maharashtra State and the Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra granted permission to the School of Interior Design’s School of Fashion and Textile Design to introduced Three Year’s part-time Government Diploma Course in Fashion & Textile Design from session 2002-2003.

It may be stated here that ours is the FIRST INSTITUTE introduce Three year part-time Government Diploma Course in Fashion & Textile Design in the State of Maharashtra.

The School has been arranging Annual Exhibition & Fashion Shows every year where the work of Textile Design i.e. Batik, Tie & Dye, Sari Printing etc.& work in Fashion Designing is exhibited in the Fashion Show with the dresses designed by prepared by the students during the course is exhibited. Study tours, field visits & practical assignments However, The School felt that the work of students in fashion designing can be shown more interestingly by arranging Fashion Show, where the students work in Fashion Designing is exhibited in the Fashion Show with the dresses designed by them in the school.

During last Four years, the school of Fashion and Textile Design organized Four Fashion Shows in which the dresses designed by them were worn by well known models in the Fashion Shows which was appreciated by one and all.

This gave an opportunity to students to display their talents before the live Audience and to get exposure to this vibrant industry.

By studying this course of Three Years part-time, students will be able to learn followings :

  • To provide designs and patterns to export houses and fashion boutiques.
  • To start one’s own boutique.
  • To enable them to start their own printing unit.
  • Specializing in screen making, screen printing, and tracing as a consultant.
  • To give them exposure through Fashion Shows, Exhibitions and Seminars.
  • To make them study our cultural heritage as well as the western history of costumes.


Rachana Sansad’s School of Fashion & Textile Design is the first Institution to conduct the B.Sc. in Fashion Design recognized by Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University.

DURATION:
Three Year (Full - Time) including internship depending upon academic performance at a reputed Fashion Boutique / Textile Workshop after the course.

HOURS OF INSTRUCTION :
Monday to Friday Morning 9.00 a.m to 3.00 p.m

SESSION :
September to May

ADMISSION QUALIFICATION :
H.S.C. / Graduate

INTAKE :
40 STUDENTS.

PAYMENT OF FEES :
The admission to the course at School will be confirmed only on payment of full fees in advance by the student. Registration is incomplete until fees are paid.

No refunds will be made of fees or any other payments except Deposits during the academic sessions, If a Student leaves School. Tuition other fees are charged as follows :
All fees will be accepted in Cash / Demand Draft only in one Installment.

ENROLLMENT FEES :
Students admitted to the First Year Course will have to pay Enrollment Fee to Y.C.M.O.U

ATTENDANCE :
In order to be permitted to appear for any examination, the students must have in every subject at least 75% attendance to his / her credit and also satisfactory scholastic and personal behavior record. Students desirous of making appeal to the Head of the Institute on any account must address the same through the class incharge / subject incharge.

INTERNAL ASSESSMENT :
Minimum forty score in Sessional work and forty percent passing score in internal examinations are mandatory for eligibility to annual examinations.

SESSIONAL WORK :
It is compulsory for all the students to do most of their sessional work in the studios or class rooms. Sessional work of each student is reviewed on time and assessed progressively. The students securing less than the minimum marks will not be permitted to appear for the Annual Examination of the School & Y.C.M.O.U.

EXAMINATIONS :
The School will conduct Terminal /Preliminary Tests for all the classes during the session. Annual Examination for I, II & III year will be conducted by Y.C.M.O.U for which Examination fee will have to be paid as prescribed by Y.C.M.O.U.

EQUIPMENT :
The Institute provides furniture, drawing boards and machine while students should bring their own Equipments, stationery materials for their use.

FACILITIES :
STUDENTS’ WELFARE: The Principle and the staff maintain close and personal Contact with individual students and with Students’ Association. They are available for advise and help on all matters pertaining to their education and welfare.

GUIDANCE :
The teaching staff of the School is available to attend to students’ difficulties by prior appointment.

THE LIBRARY :
The Library of the Institution contains large number of books and journals in the field of allied subjects is made every year. Fashion & Textile and periodicals from all over the world are subscribed regularly. The Library and the Reading room is open to students between 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. throughout the week except Sundays and Bank holidays.

STUDY TOURS / CONFERENCES :
The School conducts study tours to various textiles mills, fashion boutiques, printing departments is compulsory.

FASHION SHOW :
The School Fashion Show to promote the students in the industry. Participation in the show is compulsory. The students will be marked according to the rules.

LECTURES AND EXHIBITIONS :
The School arranged a lecture week every year by inviting experts from different field. It also holds the annual exhibitions of the works of its students and staff. It keeps constant liaison with parents and guardians by inviting them to all the functions.

PRIZES AND AWARDS :
The School encourages students by awarding prizes, award and trophies for their best work in Fashion show & Exhibition.

General Information

DRAWINGS:
All the work prepared by the students during the course is property of the school. It may be returned to the students unless it is required for the purpose of record and exhibition.

REPORTS:
Reports regarding students progress are made available to the parents or guardians upon request to the Principal of the School. Parents and guardians are requested to keep track of their ward’s progress.

IDENTITY CARD:
Every students on admission to the School must obtain an identity card within a week from the date of admission. The identity card must be produced whenever demanded by any member of the staff. Students are advised to carry I.C. to all places for official & unofficial visits.

CHANGE IN ADDRESS:
Every change in address should be immediately communicated to the H.O.D. of the School.

COMMUNICATION:
All communication should be addressed to the H.O.D. of the School of Fashion and Textile Design, stating the roll number and year of study of the student.

GENERAL REGULATIONS:
All students are required to observe and comply with all rules, regulations and requirements as may from to time to time be drawn up by the School. Decision of the authorities will be final and binding.

AWARDS:
The School awards the following Prizes every year. For the best performance in each class throughout the session. For the best design in every class. For the best performance in extra curricular activities.

ANNUAL SOCIAL & EXHIBITIONS :
Exhibition of students work is held along with the annual social gathering at the School’s premises. The get-together of staff, students, parents and guardians encourages exchange of ideas, views and experience. Annual send off to final year students is accorded at a get-together of staff and students.

BOOKS AND EQUIPMENTS :
Students should provide themselves with approved textbooks and equipments which they should buy in consultation with the lecturers in respective subject. In order to pursue their studies, students are required to pusses equipments prescribed by the authorities. Drawing table, board are provided by the authorities.

HOSTEL:
There is no hostel attached to School at present.
