AFAC in collaboration with P L Deshpande kala sankul and Faandee organised an event ’Dialogues off sight/site’ with two separate programs- A panel discussion inquiring
‘Do Biennials & Art fairs define Art History?’ with Art critic, curator and writer Mr. Abhijit Tamhane and Artist Mr. Nilesh Kinkale, moderated By Dr. Nitin Hadap.
‘Ingenious native’ which presents an interesting and insightful narrative of colonial era painter Gangaram Tambat Navgire.
In the panel discussion- Do Biennials & Art fairs define Art History. In which Mr. Abhijit Tamhane and Nilesh Kinkale presented the art works they had witnessed in their many visits to Biennals and art fairs all over the world for the last 15- 20 years. Their presentation created a lot of questions and answers and debate. It created a purposeful dialogue and collective enquiry.
In the second program. Dr. Nitin Hadap along with Makrand Sapre as a presentation of Gavaksh collective – Ingenious native. Docu Drama of an artist from pre independence era Gangaram Tambat. This docu drama presents how the native painter adopted the western ideas of visual presentation and narration and documented the life and times of the Peshwa period of Maharashtra.
How it is important to understand the work of this artist, as an informal introduction and absorption of western style of representation before the formal establishment of art schools in India.
Both the programs were attended by students, teachers, scholars, academicians and contemporary artists. They become a memorable event for everyone.
